adverbs modify verbs and usually end in -ly. They also modify other adverbs and adjectives. It is important to note that while most adverbs end in -ly there are exceptions.

Adverbs answer certain questions. They also show time, place and manner.

Adverbs modify different parts of speech. Adverbs answer questions such as:

Pronouns are used to avoid repetition and to take the place of nouns ( persons, places or things).

Below is an example  of a sentence without any pronouns.

John asked Sarah to the party . Sarah told John that Sarah would go with John. John said that John was very pleased that Sarah accepted

John's invitation.

It seems rather long-winded. With the addition of some pronouns it could read:

John asked Sarah to the party and she said yes. John was very pleased that she accepted.

An indefinite pronoun is one that does not refer to a specific person rather it refers to a general group or things. For example the pronoun 'I' refers to a specific person. Whereas the indefinite pronoun 'everybody' refers to a general group of people.

Everybody is comeing to the party.

Anything goes.

Everyone is going to the rehearsal.

Somebody was to teach us about debating but they haven't turned up.

Anybody is able to attend.

Some indefinite pronouns take either a singular or plural verb. "Some of the crows were sitting on the fence." - the plural were refers to the crows. Choose the correct verb for these sentences.

Just like the nouns these words replace they can be singular or plural; they can refer to males or females; and they change their form depending on where they are used in a sentence.

All the pronouns in these sentences refer to the windsurfer, however the forms the pronouns take depend on the relationship between the person windsurfing and other parts of the sentence.

I love windsurfing.

Windsurfing is terrific for me.

I love my windsurfer.

Pronouns can also help us ask questions. These are called interrogative pronouns and they are: who, whom, whose, which and what.

Who did you say you saw in the alley?

Which car was he driving?

What do you want me to do?

Whom can you recognise?
